Game of Thrones filming locations - Mdina & Rabat

Game of Thrones, one of the best TV shows created ever, had it's first season filmed in Malta. I am sure that all of the fans would like to visit the Game of Thrones locations in Malta, to see and take few photos of this places. There are several filming locations in Malta and also Gozo, which can be seen in the scenes of the serial, like the one that took place in Kings Landing, and the Dotraki weeding and Essos.

Mdina  Game of Thrones locations

In the old capital of Malta, Mdina, few scenes of GOT were filmed. Known as the "Silent City" for its peaceful atmosphere and tranquil streets, Mdina's timeless beauty perfectly embodied the regal essence of Westeros. If you have some time for a tour around the Silent City go and see where the famous scenes took place. This was quite an exciting journey for me. I took some screenshots from the episodes and tried to find the exact spots from the scenes. In the pictures below you can see the difference between the movie set and the reality. For a moment the awareness that the actors were there brought an amazing feeling.

Mdina Gate Game of Thrones scenes

As you enter through the imposing Mdina Gate, you'll find yourself stepping into the realm of Game of Thrones. This grand entrance served as the backdrop for numerous scenes, including Ned Stark's arrival in King's Landing  in the show's first season. Stand where the honorable Stark stood and immerse yourself in the rich history of the fictional realm. Here was also filmed the scene in the 3 episode Lord Snow, when Catherine Stark arrives in the capital.

 Rabat  Game of Thrones location

Adjacent to Mdina, the town of Rabat provided additional filming locations for Game of Thrones, offering a mystical backdrop that perfectly complemented the series' fantastical elements.
St Dominic's Convent.

In Rabat, St. Dominic's Convent transformed into the Red Keep's gardens, where characters such as Margaery Tyrell and Sansa Stark found solace amidst the intricate political web of King's Landing. Explore the convent's beautiful courtyards, adorned with vibrant flora, and imagine yourself as part of the intricate Game of Thrones tapestry. A found out that another scene was filmed at St Dominic's Convent in Rabat, between Cersei and Ned Stark.

In the pivotal seventh episode of the inaugural season, aptly titled "You Win or You Die," Cersei and Ned Stark engage in a conversation that resonates with the intricate political undercurrents of Game of Thrones. This particular scene, etched in the annals of the series, unfolded against the backdrop of St. Dominic's Convent in Rabat, Malta. Intrigued by the prospect of witnessing this iconic moment, I embarked on a quest to locate the precise corner where the characters' paths converged. However, my enthusiasm was met with a minor obstacle—the entrance to the garden was regrettably closed, preventing me from accessing the exact vantage point. Undeterred, I captured the essence of the site from a distance, allowing the historical aura of St. Dominic's Convent to infuse my photograph. It's worth noting that the passage of time may have ushered in changes to the locale since the filming, adding an intriguing layer of mystery and evolution to this cinematic slice of Rabat's history.

Malta really has great places to set a movie scene. It offers a variety of scenery from medieval and baroque styles, and many other spectacular landscapes and historical moments. I find this an interesting thing to do, so I hope in the near future I visit other filming locations and I will share them with you. I've already visited most of the places.
