Explore Malta - 4 Destinations to go

Explore Malta

The sunny island of Malta even though is very small it has many destinations people can explore. In this post I will share 4 destinations to go next day off, or whenever you are in the mood for that.

St. Peter's Pool

St. Peter's Pool is a natural pool in the south of Malta, very close to Marsaxlokk. This seems to be one of my favorite places to go, especially in the summer. It is a great place to spend a day because it offers nice rocks to jump from and a great place for diving. This time I went with my boyfriend and a friend of ours. I really enjoyed that hour we spend on the cliffs, breathing in all the fresh air. The grass is very green, and colorful flowers are making it like out of a cartoon.

Blue Grotto Area

Blue Grotto is in the south of the island, close to Zurrieq. It is a fantastic cave system, that must be on your list to visit. I've been a couple of times before, and it is really worth visiting. It also offers nice rock formations, and great corals to explore. A few days ago, I went over there together with some friends and my boyfriend and we enjoyed the view up from the road all the way to the open sea. There were a lot of cars and people, but we found a nice bench and we enjoyed the view it offered.

Buskett Garden

A few days ago I had team-building activities from my work, and imagine, I found a woodland on the island. Buskett Garden is one of the best places to spend a few hours of relaxation or hiking in nature. It is probably the greenest area on the whole island. It is a small forest, which offers a picnic area and a great place to enjoy days off. These gardens are located west of Siggiewi and east of Dingli. It dates from Roman times, and there is also the Verdala Palace, which serves as the official residence of the president of Malta.

Verdera Palace explore malta
The Verdera Palace served as one of the filming locations for Game of Thrones. It served as the exterior of Illyrio Mopatis’s mansion in Pentos, in the first episode of Season 1. It was the place where Daenerys and Viserys Targaryen meet Khal Drogo before the wedding.

Popeye Village Area

Finally, after 3 years on the island, I managed to see Popeye Village. This was a film set for the musical "Popeye", in 1980, where the main role was played by Robin Williams. Today it serves as a theme park village with boat rides and food outlets. It is one of the biggest attractions for children. I didn't go inside the village, I just saw it from the cliffs and enjoyed that amazing and cute view. This village is located very close to Mellieha on the north of the island.
